Ahead of Maharashtra election, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi unleashed an attack on the Congress party. Owaisi slammed Congress on the grounds of the party trying to appease Muslims. He said the grand old party should stop pretending to be the saviour of Indian Muslims. He also said that Muslims have been living in India for many years and that Congress had no role to play in it.

Owaisi slams Congress

Addressing a rally for his party's candidate from Maharashtra's Bhiwandi seat, Owaisi said:

"If for more than 70 years, the Muslims have continued living in India it is not because of your (Congress) grace, but due to the Constitution and the one above (God),"

However, this is not the first time when the AIMIM chief has targeted the Congress top brass. Earlier, Owaisi hit out at Rahul Gandhi following his resignation as the party President. He said when a ship is about to sink, it's the captain's duty to evacuate everyone safely, however, in this case, he said that Gandhi is a captain who himself left on seeing Congress ship sink.

"When a ship sinks in the middle of a sea, the captain evacuates everyone safely but Gandhi is a captain who himself left after seeing the Congress sinking. Muslims are not alive due to Congress' mercy on us for 70 years, rather we are alive because of the Constitution and by the grace of God," said Owaisi.

Furthermore, Owaisi directed his comments toward RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and said that India was never a 'Hindu Rashtra' and that AIMIM will never allow it to become one.

"India is not a Hindu Rashtra and we will never let it become one, we are strongly against it," Owaisi said in response to Bhagwat where the RSS chief referred to India as a country of Hindus.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Bhagwat said:

"We are a country of Hindus. Hindu is not the name of a language, province or country but a culture, which is the legacy of all people living in India."
