Hailing his brother for making the decision to tender his formal resignation as the Congress chief, she said that few display such courage as the Gandhi scion did. She added that she had the deepest respect for his decision.
Party president resigns after much drama
After 41 days following the humiliating defeat of the party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections at the hands of BJP, Rahul Gandhi posted his resignation letter on Twitter. In the four-page letter, he said that it would be incorrect for him to select the new person to lead the Congress party, even after his party colleagues suggested to nominate the same.
Senior party-men react
Responding to the younger Gandhi sibling quitting, his guru and senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel took to Twitter to say that 'Rahul's resignation letter is unfortunate'.
Speculations on new party chief
As per sources, Gandhi loyalist Motilal Vora is likely to be interim Congress president. Sources also say that a faction in the party do not want Vora to lead even on a temporary basis.
Meanwhile, with regards to the new president of the party, sources say that Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are leaning towards having loyalists such as Sushil Kumar Shinde and Ashok Gehlot as party chiefs. While another faction in the party favours young guns such as Rajasthan Deputy CM Sachin Pilot.
