Siddaramaiah clarifies on 'CM again' comment, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy hits back

A day after expressing his desire to become the "Chief Minister again", Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah has clarified his stand saying that "he only meant his party coming back to power in next assembly elections".

"You can think whatever you want, but I said we will come to power in next election," he said while addressing the media.

Meanwhile, responding to Siddaramaiah's comments, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said "Anybody can become a CM in this democracy. It is a democratic system."

Earlier, creating ripples within the political circle, Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed the desire to become Chief Minister for one more term. Interestingly, Siddaramaiah had earlier said that he would not contest the next Lok Sabha polls. However, changing his stance, the former Chief Minister on Friday said: "I wish to become CM again". 

Speaking at Hadya in Holenarasipur taluk, he said, “I wish to become CM again. I am confident that people will bless me”. 

"All opponents joined hands after the 2018 Assembly polls and ensured that I couldn’t become the CM for a second consecutive term,” he said, in a loaded statement. 

"I thought people will bless me and make me the chief minister again. Unfortunately, I lost, but this is not the end. Winning and losing is common in politics," he asserted.

Siddaramaiah, who is also the chairman of the coordination and monitoring committee of the coalition government, had been unhappy with the coalition government. He often expresses doubts about the government’s survival. 

Earlier, The cold war which began between former CM Siddaramaiah and current CM Kumaraswamy resurfaced again. Republic TV accessed a letter written by Former Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, to his successor H.D. Kumaraswamy, wherein the Congress leader asked the current CM Kumaraswamy to reconsider his decision of shifting the Film City project from Mysuru to Ramanagaram. 

Siddaramaiah hails from Mysuru district, while Kumaraswamy represents Ramanagar constituency. Earlier, Kumaraswamy in his last budget announced that Film City will be shifted to Ramanagar from where he was elected. Siddaramiah opposed the move and has mentioned several reasons to stick to the older plan.
