Union Minister Smriti Irani and Goa CM Pramod Sawant visit Amethi villages adopted by former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar

Union Minister Smriti Irani and Goa CM Pramod Sawant met the people at the villages in Amethi that were adopted by late Goa CM Manohar Parrikar on June 22.  Alongside they are also set to meet the family of Surendra Singh, the former village head of Barauli, who was shot dead late at night at his residence on May 25.

Union Minister Smriti Irani and Goa CM Pramod Sawant met the people at the villages in Amethi that were adopted by late Goa CM Manohar Parrikar on June 22.  Alongside, they are also set to meet the family of Surendra Singh, the former village head of Barauli, who was shot dead late at night at his residence on May 25. 

Smriti Irani had gone on a visit to Baraulia village in Amethi district to conduct a rally march following her victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections against Congress president Rahul Gandhi. During her two-day visit, she is scheduled to visit the villages that were adopted by late former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar under the NDA government's 'village adoption program'. 

As per quoted by news agency ANI, Goa CM Pramod Sawant said " I had come to work in Amethi in 2014 too as a worker, I had worked with Surendra Singh (former village head of Barauli, who was shot dead last month) for 20-22 days, I knew him very well."

Addressing the people of Amethi in a rally, she also took a dig at former MP of Amethi and Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Smriti Irani in a rally in Amethi and accused him of his disconnect with the people of Amethi during his tenure as the MP. She further said that while people had to hunt in search of their former MP and had to travel to Delhi for addressing their grievances, their newly elected MP had come all the way to solve the issues of her constituency. 

"There was a time in Amethi when people used to search for their MP, they used to go to Delhi," said Union Minister Smriti Irani

Earlier on May 25, Smriti Irani visited the constituency following the murder of one of her aides Surendra Singh in Baraulia village of the district, wherein, some of the deceased's relatives had indicated that his murder could be a fallout of a political rivalry, including the recently concluded general elections in which Smriti Irani trounced Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
