Standing by the former Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, NCP Maharastra chief Jayant Patil, on Thursday, has said that the work done by Praful Patel in the Aviation Industry in India is commendable and that he believes that Patel will satisfyingly answer all of the ED's queries.

"Because of Praful Patel, India has seen several airports across cities in India. There was a great momentum on civil aviation because of him. The common man also started flying and the airfare prices also cam down. Patel's work was commendable then. I am sure that the decision made by a group of ministers then. So I am sure Praful Patel will satisfy the agency adequately clarifying their doubts," he said.

Speaking on the summons issued by the ED to the NCP leader, he said that the NCP and Patel believed that no wrongdoing was committed in the deal.

"I do not want to say anything else today because it is a notice to which Praful Patel will respond clearly. Our party and Praful Patel think that there is nothing wrong in that (the aviation deal). It is not a setback. A notice does not reduce his image or work," he added.

MASSIVE: ED Summons Former Minister Of Civil Aviation Praful Patel, To Be Quizzed On 212 Crore Kickbacks Case

Earlier in the day, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had summoned former Minister of Civil Aviation Praful Patel in connection with the case against aviation lobbyist Deepak Talwar on June 6.

Republic Media Network has learnt that the senior NCP leader, Patel will be probed in the 212 crore kickbacks case and has already been named in the chargesheet filed by the ED in May against Deepak Talwar and his son Adityanath Talwar over negotiations favouring foreign private airlines including Qatar Airways, Emirates and Air Arabia during the UPA-era. The allegation registered against them in the Aviation scam claims that private airlines were given preference by reducing the routes of Air India flights, thus causing losses to the national carrier.

This is the first major action against a political leader in the alleged multi-crore aviation scam that is stated to have taken place during the UPA government led by Manmohan Singh.

Officials sources said Patel needs to be put through certain revelations made by arrested aviation lobbyist Deepak Talwar and certain evidence unearthed by the agency in pursuit of this case filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
