'When it comes to the language, it should be the states which should decide it, Center must not have role,' says DMK

The draft policy of the HRD ministry which was released last week created massive outrage and repercussions in the south, especially in Tamil Nadu where the Tamil parties like DMK, MDMK started opposing the draft scheme alleging that this is the conspiracy of the Union government to impose Hindi in non-Hindi speaking states.

The draft policy which was released last week said that trilingual education system will be introduced in all the States and Hindi will be the third language in the non-Hindi speaking States, Tamil Nadu has predominantly been a state which is been following two language education system for decades. Whereas private schools teach the optional third language which can be either Hindi or any foreign language like French/German.

The HRD has revised the draft and released it again on Monday morning, removing the word Hindi totally, which mentioned that trilingual policy will be implemented and Additional choices of languages would, therefore, be offered in middle school for the purpose of the flexibility of students.

Music director AR Rahman, in fact, expressed his applaud by putting out a tweet stating, "Beautiful decision, Hindi is not compulsory in Tamilnadu, the draft is been changed" 

Meanwhile, DMK adopted a resolution in the meeting which happened during the occasion of 96th birthday of former DMK chief and DMK patriarch Karunanidhi. The resolution had strong words which stated,  "Don't test the patience of Tamils. DMK will fiercely oppose any attempt at any point in time to impose any language policy that could affect the two language system in TamilNadu.We urge union BJP government not to play with sentiments of Tamil People.

In a diverse country like India, we believe that central govt will not pass any legislation without due consultation with all parties concerned."

DMK senior leader and Rajya sabha MP TKS Elangovan while talking to media, reacting to the changes in the HRD draft said " TKS Elangovan, DMK RS MP and senior leader said "They have revised policy after stiff opposition. Language should not be priority of central govt.We are against three language policy.When it comes to language it should be left to state government.It's up to state govt to decide on policies on language.Centre has no business"

DMK is strongly opposing the trilingual education policy system which is been mentioned in the HRD draft and also mentions that "bringing trilingual education policy will indirectly pave way for Hindi to enter in the backdoor" 

The issue has spread to the neighbouring state Karnataka, thus many political leaders releasing statements against the new education policy draft of the HRD ministry.
