Several low-lying areas in and around Pune were flooded as heavy rains lashed the city on Wednesday. Water-logging was reported in Sinhgad Road, Dhanakwadi, Balajinagar, Ambegaon, Sahakar Nagar, Parvati, Kolhewadi and Kirkatwadi, said Prashant Ranpise, the chief of Fire Brigade said. Fire Brigade personnel are helping the people stranded in flooded areas, he said. The death toll has risen to seven after two more bodies of those affected by the Pune flood. Five people had died in a wall collapse. 

Death toll rises to seven in Pune flood

The body of a 52-year-old has been recovered from a vehicle in a canal near Sinhagad road in Pune who was the sixth victim of the waterlogging caused by heavy rains, as per ANI. He has been identified as Dattatray Gimre. The fire brigade officials recovered one more body near Sahakar Nagar in Pune leading to the death toll to rise to seven.

Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram declared a holiday on Thursday in all schools and colleges of Pune city, Purandar, Baramati, Bhor and Haveli tehsil of Pune district, following heavy rains in the region. Three teams of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) have been deployed for flood rescue operations in Pune - one team each at Katraj, Baramati and near Corporation office. Three teams are deployed from five NDRF for search and rescue operation. The teams deployed are at Katraj where the wall is collapsed. Bridges closed, Trains affected, roads waterlogged. Another team is deployed under the supervision of Sh. Alok Kumar, DC deployed near Corporation office. The third team is prepositioned at Baramati for flood rescue operation under command of Insp. Rajendra Patil.

Karnataka floods: CM Yediyurappa seeks flood-relief funds

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Sunday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and sought Rs. 2,000 crore as urgent relief for the flood-affected State. Speaking to the reporters, the Chief Minister said that the Centre has assured that a decision on providing assistance from the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) will be taken after a central team, which is assessing the extent of damage in the State, submits its report in the next two-three days. "We have demanded Rs 2,000 crore central assistance for flood relief. We have resource constraint. Despite all, the state government has released about Rs 1,000 crore so far.

Uttar Pradesh floods update

The heavy rainfall in Prayagraj has resulted in the swelling of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers in Uttar Pradesh. This situation has increased the chances of flooding and inundation in the low-lying areas of the city. The villages near the banks of the rivers are also partially submerged due to the relentless rainfall in Prayagraj. The stagnant water in a few areas of the region has also become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and is caused by the presence of plastic and slit in the drains.
