Previous incidents
Earlier on September 24, the Punjab police had recovered a half-burnt unmanned vehicle from the Tarn Taran district. According to reports, the police had stated that a drone was used to drop weapons from Pakistan to fuel unrest in Punjab and the adjoining States. Further, the police had revealed that a terror group, Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), was firing through drones. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the drones were used to airdrop arms and ammunition from Pakistan. Later on September 26, the Punjab Police recovered another Pakistani drone at a border village in the state. After the two incidents, on October 4, the Home Ministry had handed over the case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for further investigation. According to reports, the drones were allegedly sent by Pakistan to smuggle weapons in India via Punjab.
Anti-drone system
The Border Security Force (BSF) has sought an "anti-drone system" that could detect and destroy any drones in the aerial platform of the operations area. According to reports, the system will have radars, radio frequency receivers, jammers and system controllers to neutralise all Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
