Aditi Singh, the Congress MLA from Raebareli (Sadar), after her recent support for the BJP-led central government's move to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday, went against her party for the second time by attending a special Assembly session called in by the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh.

Special 48-hour session

The BJP government made news on Gandhi Jayanti after it called for a 48-hour special session of the UP Assembly on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The meeting was also called for to deliberate on the 'Sustainable Development Goals' set by the United Nations.

While most of the opposition parties including the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) decided to boycott the event, Singh not only decided to go ahead with it but also presented active participation during the session. She spoke about issues relating to sanitation and drinking water that she said people were facing in her constituency.

While talking to a media house, she said that she has always talked about development in her constituency and that this event on Gandhi Jayanti looked like a good opportunity for her for discussing these issues. She also mentioned that she is ready to abide by whatever decision the party takes because people in her constituency voted for her while keeping development in mind.

Singh to switch sides soon?

Surprisingly, not only did Singh attend the BJP-organised event, but she also maintained a safe distance from a peace march that led by Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Lucknow on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Her presence during the session sparked up rumours of her changing sides soon since she’s been seen supporting the Modi-led government in its decisions. However, no official statement has come out about the same.
