Rahul Gandhi writes to Pinarayi Vijayan
In his letter to the Kerala CM, Pinarayi Vijayan, he explained that the bridge between Kurumbilangode and Chungathara village is the only source to connect the two villages across the Chaliyar river. The broken bridge has resulted in a lack of connectivity between the two villages, leading to a slow recovery process for the villagers who were affected by the floods and landslide in the region.
Rahul Gandhi wrote, 'The Kaippinikadavu bridge, which is the lifeline that connects these two villages across the Chaliyar river has collapsed. Lack of connectivity between the villages has further slowed down their recovery process. The villagers have appealed for expediting the reconstruction of this bridge.'
Rahul Gandhi had previously appealed to people to send in all forms of help, including clothes, sanitary napkins, sleeping mats, etc. Three assembly constituencies of Mallapuram in Kerala form Rahul Gandhi's Constituency Wayanad. In his last visit to the flood-affected Wayanad, he termed the suffering of the people as 'heartbreaking'. The Meppadi region of Rahul Gandhi's Wayanad constituency witnessed a major landslide creating more trouble for the people.
The Wayanad MP also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking flood assistance in Wayanad. To which the PM assured Rahul Gandhi to give any kind of assistance required to mitigate the effects of the disaster in Wayanad and in the flood hit Kerala. In his latest letter to the Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, Gandhi has requested the CM to reconstruct the bridge at the earliest. In the interim, Rahul Gandhi has also requested Kerala CM, Pinarayi Vijayan to construct a temporary structure which will ensure safe access between the villages which are situated on the opposite sides of the Chaliyar River.
