Railway ministry completes Chhayapuri station redevelopment

The Western Railway has now developed the Chhayapuri, a small station near Vadodara Junction, into a satellite station. “Chhayapuri Railway station of Vadodara division, Western Railway has been redeveloped to ease up rail traffic & increase passenger convenience at Vadodara railway station during the construction stage of city's bullet train station,” the Railway Ministry said.

Chhayapuri connects Vadodara and Ahmedabad and Vadodara and Ratlam. Chhayapuri is added as an additional station for Vadodara city and for trains on the Ahmedabad – Ratlam route. The Ministry of Railways approved the operation of 13 trains in Chhayapuri Railway Station from December 17, 2019, onwards after considering the passenger convenience Chhayapuri station will provide to the nearby areas. 

Western Railway has decided to divert 13 important trains and these trains will be stopping at Chhayapuri station. Advance reservation and booking tickets for these trains were to start from August 31, 2019. 

The Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway Ravinder Bhakar told a reputable news website that The operation of trains from Ahmedabad to Ratlam – New Delhi route & vice versa requires reversal of train at Vadodara station. due to it’s typical 'Y' shaped junction layout where the line from Mumbai divides into two, where one goes towards Ahmedabad and the other goes towards Ratlam – New Delhi. Vadodara station also connects to New Delhi’s line of the golden quadrilateral. The whole Chhayapuri Railway Station project has caused Rs. 43 crores

Benefits Of Chhayapuri Railway Station Project

• Trains will not be reversed at Vadodara, they will move through the rail line avoiding Vadodara junction. It will also help in reducing travel time by at least half an hour. 
• Vadodara will be free of congestion and four critical paths.
• Satellite stations help the expansion and development of the city and surrounding areas. 

The new features of the Chhayapuri Railway Station

• Station has two full-length platforms that can accommodate 26 coach trains.
• There are two lifts and one-foot overbridge.
• 27 minutes will be saved per train approximately due to operation from Chayyapuri.
• Around 19 pairs of trains can be diverted.
