Delhi Coaching Institute Tragedy: Fee Structure of Rau's IAS Study Circle where 3 IAS Aspirants Died
Rau’s IAS Study Circle charges a hefty amount of fee for its courses to train aspirants for the prestigious civil services examination
New Delhi: Three UPSC aspirants died after flooding at a basement due to a drain burst in Rau’s Study circle in Delhi’s Old Rajender Nagar, a well-established coaching institute on Saturday.
The incident sparked huge protests in the Old Rajender Nagar area with UPSC aspirants coming to the streets to seek justice for the victims. The Delhi Police have arrested the institute's owner and coordinator for violating regulations by operating a library in the basement.
Like any other coaching institute, Rau’s IAS Study Circle charges a hefty amount of fee for its courses to train aspirants for the prestigious civil services examination.
Their fees for the General Studies course is more than a lakh which lasts for approx 10 months.
According to the institute's website, the integrated foundation course for General Studies (Prelims and Mains) is priced at ₹1,75,500 (offline) and ₹95,500 (live-online). The six-month optional subjects course costs ₹55,500 (offline) and ₹45,500 (live-online), while the three-month CSAT coaching course costs ₹18,500 (offline) and ₹12,500 (live-online).
The three victims have been identified as Shreya Yadav from Ambedkar Nagar, Nevin Dalvin from Ernakulam, Kerala, and Tanya Soni from Telangana.
Shreya Yadav's father, Rajendra Yadav, who runs a grocery store in their hometown took out a loan to cover her fees. Shreya had previously informed her father about earlier flooding incidents in the coaching institute's library in the basement.
Nevin Dalvin who hailed from Ernakulam, Kerala was an outstanding student. He was a research scholar at JNU in visual studies and already held an MPhil degree in the same field from the JNU.
The coaching institute stated that they will fully comply with the investigation and gave their commitment to the probe into the tragic incident.
