Major Breakthrough in Reasi Terror Attack, Police Arrest Man Who ‘Sheltered Terrorists’ For Rs 6,000

Reasi terror attack: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday made the first arrest on the June 9 Reasi terror attack case. The senior superintendent of police, Mohita Sharma informed that the one arrested (Hakim Din) is “not the mastermind but played an important role in the attack.” Din is a resident of Rajouri and is suspected to have provided logistics to the terrorists for the attack for Rs 6,000.

A bus carrying pilgrims from Shiv Khori cave shrine to Katra in Reasi district came under terrorist attack in Teryath village in the Pouni area on June 9. Nine people lost their lives and 33 others were injured. At the latest, fifty people were detained in connection with the investigation into the terror attack. To ensure a comprehensive probe, the search operation to track down the terrorists, has been expanded to cover Reasi district's far-flung Arnas and Mahore areas which were terrorist hotbeds between 1995 and 2005.

Confirming the detention of 50 suspects in connection with the attack, a police spokesperson said it followed an intensive investigation.

"Significant leads have been uncovered, aiding in the identification and capture of those who may be potentially involved in orchestrating the attack. To ensure a comprehensive probe, search operations have been expanded to cover the far-flung areas of Arnas and Mahore," the spokesperson said.

He said these operations aim to uncover further evidence and apprehend terrorists who may be hiding in these remote regions.

Police have already released a sketch of one of the terrorists and announced a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh for information leading to the neutralization of the culprits.

"The law enforcement agencies are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors in the area," the spokesperson said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, Mohita Sharma urged people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.

PM Modi Takes Stock Of Situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked officials to deploy the "full spectrum of counter-terror capabilities" as he reviewed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir following a spate of terror incidents, including an attack on a bus carrying pilgrims.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and other officials attended the meeting chaired by Modi, who also spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed the deployment of security forces and counter-terror operations, government sources said.

They said Modi spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha as well and took stock of the situation in the Union Territory. Sinha briefed him on the efforts being undertaken by the local administration.

In the meeting, the prime minister was given a full overview of the security-related situation in the region and was apprised of the counter-terror efforts being undertaken.

"The prime minister asked them to deploy the full spectrum of our counter-terror capabilities," an official source said.
