Jaishankar on meeting PM Hasina: Taking our ties to next higher level

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday in New Delhi. Sheikh Hasina also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier in September, both leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

S Jaishankar meets Sheikh Hasina

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar took to Twitter and shared pictures from the meeting between Hasina and Jaishankar. Talking about the meeting, Jaishankar said, "Taking our ties to the next higher level."

In addition, Kumar also stated that PM Modi and Hasina's talks will revolve around trade and connectivity, development cooperation, people to people contact, culture and other issues of mutual interest. Moreover, both leaders are set to inaugurate three projects. Meanwhile, India and Bangladesh will also sign agreements relevant to key areas like transport, connectivity, capacity building and culture following the talks. Apart from signing the agreements, both countries have decided to discuss the demarcation of the land boundary agreement. MEA official spokesperson Raveesh Kumar while talking about the Teesta River issue said,

"The government of Bangladesh is aware of our position in this regard. I think what is important to note is that apart from Teesta, there are at least seven other trans-border rivers and there is an early meeting of the joint water commission which is held at the level of secretary. That meeting is going to take place very soon."

At the World Economic Forum (WEF), Hasina addressed the India Economic Summit in New Delhi, as the chief guest, on Thursday. Hasina in her address also sought additional investments in Bangladesh. Hasina's another key agenda on her visit will be marked by her meeting with President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday afternoon. 

'NRC is not a problem:' Sheikh Hasina

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said that she does not see the NRC as a problem. She was quoted saying that she is satisfied with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance that Bangladesh should not be worried over the NRC being implemented.

“I don’t see any problem. I had a talk with Prime Minister Modi. Everything is okay.”
