Secret body-worn cameras to be a part of policing in Noida starting from New Year’s weekend

For the first time, body-worn cameras will now be a part of the Noida police security and checking system that began since the last week of the outgoing year of 2023.

The Noida police plan to allocate body-worn cameras to police officials along with police response vehicles at crime sites to record on-site ground developments.

With a well-thought-out motive to enhance police functioning and to promote evidence-based policing, junior police personnel will now operate in districts with a secret hidden device in their uniform.

Speaking on the implementation of the technology-based equipment in the police functioning, Noida Joint CP Anand Kulkarni, said, “With a purpose to bring transparency and accountability in police functioning in Noida, our police personnel will be allocated the body-worn cameras acting as first responders to the call of crime or emergency."

He added, "Our personnel will be armed with the same to record videos and each of the four teams including the mobile team, Shakti mobile team, ‘Swayam Siddha’ team of woman constables, and women help desk, will be provided with this device.”

He further stated, “Women police personnel too who mostly stay on the ground will be a part of this new implementation as the instances where allegations against the police officials of harassment that emerge will now be checked. The traffic police personnel will also be a part of the groups of police officers who will be allocated the hidden cameras."

"This move is also brought in to promote the use of technology under the safe city project that has already been implemented in Noida along with promoting professionalism in the district's policing system,” he added.

Ahead of the tight security arrangements put in place to maintain law and order in Noida, the implementation of this technology will be seen for the first time as more than 700 body-worn cameras have already been allocated.

Along with the police staff, informers who usually are in civil defence uniform too will be provided with this device. To expand the allocation in more districts of Noida Commissionerate, sources also said that planning to acquire more such devices is being done.
