Several Bengaluru-Bound Passengers Left Stranded After Landslide Hits Train Services in Karnataka
After the latest landslide, five train services were affected, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded for hours.
Bengaluru: Train services were affected between Bengaluru and the coastal districts of Karnataka after a landslide was reported between Shakleshpur and Ballupet station, on Saturday.
This comes two days after the services were restored on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru section following a landslide. After the latest landslide, five train services were affected, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded for hours. The affected trains include SBC-Kannur, Bengaluru-Murdeshwar, Murdeshwar-SMVB, and Pachanaganga Express from Karwar to Bengaluru.
“Landslide between Sakleshpur and Ballupet section affected train services. Restoration work is under progress despite adverse weather conditions,” tweeted Shilpi Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru.
Sources said many Bengaluru-bound passengers who were left stranded took bus to complete their journey. Railways said the work is underway to restore services.
Senior Officers led by Arvind Srivastava, General Manager, K S Jain Additional General Manager and Principal Heads of Departments were monitoring the situation closely. Shilpi Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru as supervising restoration works.
Meanwhile, the Railways has arranged refreshments for the stranded passengers at Alur station.
Earlier, a landslide incident occurred on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru section on July 26, between the Yedakumeri and Kadagaravalli sections of the Mysuru division. The earlier incident had resulted in the cancellation of train services for more than ten days to facilitate track restoration work. Passenger train services on this section had resumed on Thursday, after receiving safety clearance from the officials.
