Siddaramaiah has a message for MLAs who fell for 'Operation Lotus' following the collapse of Kumaraswamy's Congress-JD(S) govt

The fragile JD(S)-Congress government failed the trust vote in the Karnataka Assembly after the coalition secured 99 votes against BJP's 105 votes, putting an end to the prolonged political drama.

The JD(S)-Congress government has persistently accused the BJP of horse-trading ever since the rebel MLAs resigned. Following the collapse of government on Tuesday, Karnataka Congress' chief Siddaramaiah in a passive-aggressive tweet told that MLAs that 'those who fell for Operation Kamala will never be inducted back to the party'

Meanwhile, BJP's BS Yeddyurappa made a statement outside the Karnataka Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday immediately after Kumaraswamy's government finally fell after a protracted saga. Addressing media persons and flanked by his MLAs who had shown themselves to outnumber the Congress-JDS alliance's, Yeddyurappa declared the start of a new wave of development:

"It is the victory of the democracy," Yeddyurappa began in English, adding, "People were fed up with the Kumaraswamy government."

He promised, "I want to assure the people of Karnataka that a new era of development will start now onwards. Our farmers are suffering like anything. In coming days we'll assure the people of Karnataka and farmers, we'll give more importance to them. We'll take appropriate decisions as early as possible." 

Following delaying tactics over the last several days, with numerous MLAs still stationed in Mumbai and the Supreme Court also hearing pleas seeking to compel the Karnataka Speaker to conduct the trust vote, the Kumaraswamy government-managed just 99 votes in the assembly versus the BJP's 105. 3 MLAs abstained from voting, as did 15 rebels in the 223-member house.

Kumaraswamy is now expected to go to the Governor's residence and tender his resignation, while the BJP, which now has the numbers, is likely to stake claim to forming a government in the state.
