Sri Lanka backs revocation of Article 370, PM Ranil Wickremesinghe calls it 'India's internal matter'

Centre's move to revoke Article 370 which gives Jammu and Kashmir separate laws, rights and special identity than the rest of India, the proposal to divide the state into union territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir has been supported by neighbouring country Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Tuesday expressed his backing to the Indian government in a tweet. He said that making Ladakh a Union Territory will make it the sole Indian region with a Buddhist majority. He also said that the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter.

His statement is significant for India as China which is Pakistan's all-weather friend continues to extend its influence over South Asia and South East Asia. It shows the success of India's diplomacy in South Asia.

One must note that Sri Lanka is a Buddhist majority nation and that Chinese-controlled Tibet is also a Buddhist majority territory.

UAE supports India in revocation of Article 370

Earlier on Tuesday, UAE ambassador to India, Dr Ahmed AlBanna taking note of Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370, called it an 'internal matter.' As per international news reports, he expressed hope that this change would improve 'social justice, security, and confidence of people'. He was quoted saying, "We expect that the changes would improve social justice and security and confidence of the people in the local governance and will encourage further stability and peace." 

Pakistan takes Kashmir issue to OIC

Meanwhile, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi in a desperate attempt has taken the matter to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) over the removal of Article 370 from J&K. Interfering in India's domestic decision, Islamabad "rejected" the announcement to scrap the special provision for Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. In a statement, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said that Jammu and Kashmir is an "internationally recognised disputed territory."
