Supreme Court Warns Of Fake Websites Impersonating Official Site Stealing Personal Info
New Delhi: The Supreme Court issued a public notice on Thursday, alerting the public about fake websites impersonating its official site. These fraudulent sites have been attempting to steal personal and confidential information from unsuspecting users. The Apex Court said, "The Registry, Supreme Court of India has been made aware of a phishing attack." It also added that the fake websites have been hosted on the uniform resource locator (URL).
According to the Supreme Court's registry, the fake websites have been set up with similar web addresses (URLs) to the official Supreme Court site. The attackers behind these fake sites have been asking visitors to provide personal details, which could lead to identity theft and fraud.
The notice warns that anyone who visits these sites should not share personal or confidential information. “The attackers are soliciting personal details, and sharing such information could allow them to steal it,” the registry said.
The Supreme Court clarified that it would never ask for sensitive information like personal details or financial data. The official website of the Supreme Court is www.sci.gov.in, and users should always verify URLs before clicking on any links. It’s recommended that people hover over a link to check its authenticity.
If anyone has shared personal information or fallen victim to these phishing attacks, the registry advised them to change their passwords immediately for all online accounts. Victims should also contact their bank or credit card company to report unauthorised access.
The Supreme Court's registry has informed law enforcement about the phishing attack, urging them to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice. The public is advised to stay cautious and ensure the authenticity of websites before sharing any sensitive information online.
"The Registry, Supreme Court of India has taken due concern of the phishing attack and has flagged the same with law enforcement agencies, to investigate the phishing attack and bring the perpetrators to justice," it said.
