With the Navratri festival progressing in India, the way garba is being performed has also evolved. From playing Garba by wearing helmets to performing at the airport, a new trends are being set for Navratri celebrations. On Friday, people in Surat began celebrated Navratri by performing Garba Raas in a unique way — by wearing a mask of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Garba wearing helmets

Earlier, a group of people were seen performing Garba at the VR mall in Surat on September 30. This was a dance group from a Garba class who were trying to create awareness about road safety. The group members explained that "Wearing helmet and seatbelt is for one's own safety and it should be followed by all. It should not be a forceful action by the government as it does not benefit them in any way. People should make it a habit to wear a helmet and seatbelt so that they can enjoy all the festivals for a longer time in their life". Apart from this, the youngsters in Surat were also seen making tattoos on their bodies to raise awareness on various social issues during Navratri. The Modi fandom was seen painting their body with the portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump during preparations for Navratri.

Let alone passengers, the airport staff was also seen performing Garba. A similar Garba flash-mob was performed at the SVPI airport last year at both, the international and domestic, terminals. A Vadodra based designer, Rahul Thakkar, also came up with an innovative idea, this year. To make this festival more special, he tailored Garba dresses on the theme of abrogation of Article 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir. The designer Rahul Thakkar is famous for coming up with innovative ideas and themes every year. He designed a Kurta for men with the text 'RIP Article 370, 35A' written in the top right corner. And for the women, he designed a special lehenga with the same text.
