Indore: A suspended postal assistant has been detained for allegedly using a false identity to gain access to a high-security facility of the Department of Atomic Energy in the city. The incident occurred at the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RR-CAT) on Monday, according to police reports.
The accused, previously employed at the general post office, had been suspended since 2022. He reportedly posed as a director of the postal department to enter the post office located within the RR-CAT premises, claiming he was there to conduct an audit and inspection.
"Based on a complaint by an official at the post office, the man has been detained and questioned," stated Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar Sharma. "All angles will be probed to find out why he entered the RR-CAT premises."
A press release from RR-CAT confirmed that the individual had presented an identity card issued by the postal department to security personnel at the main gate. It emphasized that he was permitted to visit only the post office, and there was no "breach or lapse" in the multi-tier security system of the institute.
Further investigation revealed that the police recovered fake identity cards from the accused, including one for a "Marcos Commando" of the Ministry of Defence and another identifying him as a "superintendent (investigation) of the National Intelligence Bureau, Cyber Security Cell."
The detained individual has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), as authorities continue to explore the motives behind his unauthorized entry into the secure facility.
