India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin, in a veiled reference to Pakistan has said that "poisoned pens don't work for too long". Speaking to the reporters, he mentioned that there might be someone who wanted to bring an issue that it had raised before. Adding that it was for every country to determine its trajectory and how it wanted to approach global platforms, Akbaruddin stated that India’s response to those who stooped low would be to soar high. He was responding to a specific question about the possibility of Pakistan raising the Kashmir issue at the United Nations.

Pakistan has mainstreamed terror: Akbaruddin

Akbaruddin observed that Pakistan had already mainstreamed terrorism and they were on the way to mainstream hate speech. Thereafter, he was asked about India using the Right of Reply after Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's speech in the upcoming UN General Assembly session.

He responded,” It is a bad tactic to tell everybody what tactical approach you will apply. You will appreciate, you may call me anything, I am not a bad tactician."

He emphasized that India continued to focus on engaging with developing countries in the area of climate change. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the UN Climate Action Summit in New York on September 23.

The scrapping of the special status of J&K

A Presidential order combined with the passage of necessary legislation in both Houses of the Parliament led to the revocation of special status enjoyed by J&K in early August. Also, the state was bifurcated into J&K and Ladakh, with both being conferred the status of a Union Territory. Since then, Pakistan has been desperately trying to internationalize the Kashmir issue. While it did manage to convince China to call a closed-door meeting of the UN Security Council, this attempt proved to be futile. A majority of the Council members refused to pass any resolution or formally take up the matter. Similarly, it failed to file a request seeking a resolution on the Kashmir issue at the UN Human Rights Council.
