Tiger cub found dead in forest near Bandhavgarh sanctuary in Madhya Pradesh

A one-and-a-half-year-old tiger cub was found dead in a forest near the Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh. The carcass was spotted the Pahariya village sanctuary in Umaria district.

A one-and-a-half-year-old tiger cub was found dead in a forest near the Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday. The death was reportedly caused due to the internecine struggle between tigers. The carcass has been disposed of after post-mortem.

As per a report on ANI, the carcass of the cub was spotted in the Pahariya village near the sanctuary in Umaria district.  

AK Joshi, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Shahdol, confirmed the news on Wednesday and said, "The death was probably due to an internecine struggle among tigers. The post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday and the carcass was disposed of the same day.”

The report claimed that this is the third tiger cub death to have taken place in the area this year.

Previously, on July 28, the carcasses of a tigress and her cub were found in the Kalwa range of the Bandhavgarh park. 

Meanwhile, the International Tiger Day was celebrated on July 29. On that occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had unveiled the results of the fourth cycle of the All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018. He also revealed that India had achieved four years before the deadline, its target of doubling the population of tigers in the country.

PM had said, "Today, we can proudly say that with nearly 3000 tigers, India is one of the biggest and safest habitats in the world.”

He had added, "9 long years ago, it was decided in St. Petersburg (Russia) that the target of doubling the tiger population would be 2022. We in India completed this target four years in advance. This is the finest example of Sankalp Se siddhi (Attainment through Resolve).”
