As the nation is basking in the fervour of Durga Puja, Trinamool MP Nusrat Jahan was spotted at a pandal in Kolkata celebrating the festival. In what may be called the highlight of her celebration, she along with her husband, Nikhil Jain played dhak at the Suruchi Sangha pandal of Kolkata. After offering her prayers at the pandal, Mamata Banerjee's party MP spoke to media and said that she is not prepared for controversy on her celebration of Durga Puja but she will continue to follow her own path in religion. As the MP celebrated the festival in full swing, she was also spotted dancing on the beats of the traditional dhaak

Controversy surrounding Nusrat Jahan

Since the time Nusrat Jahan was elected as Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha polls, she has been miffed with controversy. Her marriage with her boyfriend Nikhil Jain in Turkey in June, made the Muslim hardliners speak against her. Later when she took oath into the Parliament wearing a sindoor and bangles, a major controversy broke out and a city-based Muslim cleric criticised Jahan for marrying a Jain and wearing sindoor, calling the practices un-Islamic. Later, she attended Jagannath Rath Yatra at ISKCON temple in Kolkata, creating ripples within the Muslim hardliners. Affirming her stance on religious inclusivity, Jahan had said that all religions speak of unity and peace. She had said that she believes in celebrating all festivals together.
