The state of Tamilnadu, especially cities like Chennai are facing acute water scarcity for almost two months which the chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami says it's blown out of proportion by the media.
While addressing the media at Chennai, the chief minister indicated that the water crisis was being exaggerated, he said:
"In case of a water issue somewhere, it should not be blown up to give a false impression that the entire State is reeling from water scarcity, nature has failed."
All the four reservoirs around Chennai which are the main source of water to the Chennai city doesn't have a drop of water as the groundwater levels have also gone down since the rainfall deficit is also 69% according to the IMD. But the systematic failure of the government even after the warning of the IMD.
The Chennai city requires around 850 Million litres of water per day out of which only 525 MLD of water is only been supplied every day to the city through the metro tanker lorries which was agreed by the municipal corporation minister SP Velumani himself during a press conference.
The streets of Chennai has seen people standing with plastic pots everywhere for several hours a day from, people who have booked a tanker lorry and waiting for several days to get it delivered to their doorsteps because of the high demand.
People in many parts of the state protested in the streets with the pots demanding water which are not hyped ones.
There are few reports about hotels getting closed and hostels being shut down in many places of the city because of the water scarcity which is happening on the ground. But municipal corporation minister SP Velumani says that the water scarcity issue is been hyped & the situation is under the control as the government has taken measures.
When reporters asked about the water scarcity, CM Edappadi Palaniswami also said, "I request to stand with us. Please don't blow up an issue which occurring just in a few places and shows as if the water crisis is all across Tamilnadu. You all know how much rain Tamilnadu got. Nature has failed."
