Mainpuri (UP): A 23-year-old Dalit woman was found dead in the Mainpuri district on Wednesday. Her family claimed she was killed because she refused to vote for the Samajwadi Party (SP) during the Karhal assembly bypoll. Police have arrested two people accused of kidnapping and poisoning her. He alleged that his daughter was kidnapped around noon on Tuesday and later poisoned by Yadav with the help of Dr. Mohan Katheria. "Both the accused Dr. Mohan Katheria and Prashant Yadav named in FIR have been arrested and further investigation is in progress," Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar told PTI.The case has triggered a political controversy, with the BJP and SP accusing each other. BJP, SP Blame Each OtherThe BJP blamed the SP for the incident, claiming the party created an atmosphere of fear. "In Karhal, Samajwadi Party leader Prashant Yadav and his associates murdered a Dalit girl just because she had refused to vote for the 'cycle' (SP's election symbol). In Mainpuri, the Saifai family and Akhilesh Yadav's goons are again trying to create an atmosphere of terror," the BJP's Uttar Pradesh unit posted on X, attaching a video of the grieving father.BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary also criticized the SP on social media. The SP denied the allegations, with party chief Akhilesh Yadav accusing the BJP of misusing government machinery to influence the bypolls. "This is a conspiracy to defame the Samajwadi Party by the BJP, which often engages in such activities. This has nothing to do with the SP," SP spokesperson Rajendra Choudhary told PTI.The SP also raised concerns about police actions during the bypoll. "In Mainpuri's Karhal assembly constituency, Police Inspector Lalit Bhati is spreading fear in the name of patrolling with the force, which may affect voting. Election Commission should take cognizance and ensure fair voting," the SP posted on X in Hindi along with a video of police patrolling.Karhal is a family stronghold of the SP. Tej Pratap Singh, grandson of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, is contesting the bypoll against his relative Anujesh Pratap Singh from the BJP.
