New Delhi: The United States National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan arrived in India on Monday. Upon landing in Delhi, Jake Sullivan, along with a high-level delegation, met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at his office. Both the leaders held bilateral talks and also discussed a range of topics including both regional and global in nature.

Sullivan, accompanied by a delegation of senior American officials and industry leaders, is on two-day visit to New Delhi from June 17 to 18. He is also expected to call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This marks Biden's first official engagement with New Delhi after PM Narendra Modi-led government took charge at the Centre on June 9.

Notably, the meeting comes days after Indian national Nikhil Gupta, accused of being involved in the planning murder bid of Khalistani separatist Gurupatwant Singh Pannun, was extradited from the Czech Republic to the United States.

Although, it is not clear whether the two officials held talks related to Gupta in the meeting.

Sharing images of the meeting with the US leader, Jaishankar wrote,” Delighted to welcome US NSA @JakeSullivan46 in New Delhi today morning. A comprehensive discussion on a broad range of bilateral, regional and global issues(sic)."

The EAM exuded confidence that the meeting will further strengthen the partnership between the two nations in PM Modi-led govt’s new term

"Confident that India-US strategic partnership will continue to advance strongly in our new term,” he added.

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also held extensive talks with his American counterpart with the primary focus on implementation of the ambitious India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET).

The two top NSAs are also learnt to have discussed global and regional issues of mutual interest.

Following the launch of the iCET by PM Modi and US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the Quad summit held in Tokyo in May 2022, the two security officials have put in a concerted effort to engage in identified areas of collaboration in diverse domains of new and emerging technologies, including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, defence innovation, space and advanced telecommunications.
