Video: Royal Bengal Tiger Sparks Panic in Assam Village, 2 Injured

Guwahati: As Assam reels under grim flood situation, a video of Royal Bengal Tiger causing terror and roaming around in Nagaon's Zengani village has gone viral across social media. The viral video shows the tiger roaming around in a paddy field and running around as villagers were heard screaming.

The tiger has reportedly attacked and injured two local residents. The individuals, identified as Abdul Aziz and Akhtar Ali Hussain, nearly survived the attack but sustained grievous injuries and were admitted to the nearby hospital by the locals, said police.

Nagaon superintendent of police (SP) Swapnaneel Deka said, “Both the injured persons are now out of danger and forest officials are inspecting the further developments.”

Locals reported that the tiger had been roaming the area for a long time, causing widespread fear. Following the incident, forest officials are monitoring the tiger, which was spotted by residents after the event, according to sources.

Assam Forest Department sources said that efforts are underway to tranquilize the tiger and address the situation. Officials have also advised Juria residents to avoid going near the tiger.

The incident occurred near the Laokhowa and Burhachapori Wildlife Sanctuary. A forest official suspects the tiger may have ventured out of the sanctuary, possibly in search of food due to the situation caused by recent floods in the area.

“A large number of animals are affected by the floods and the tiger must have come out in search of food. We are inspecting the matter further,” said a forest official.

Heavy rainfall over the past few days in Assam has caused flooding in most parts of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, as well as the surrounding areas. The floods have impacted wildlife as seventeen animals, including a rhino calf and hog deer, drowned in Kaziranga National Park, while 72 were rescued by forest authorities. Meanwhile, the flood situation in Nagaon district remains dire, with nearly 30,000 people affected.
