Video: Journalist Finds Cockroach in Omelete Served on Air India Flight
A journalist traveling with her 2-year-old toddler and family found a cockroach in her breakfast on an Air India flight from Delhi to New York on Sep 17.
New Delhi: Air India is under fire after journalist Suyesha Savant, traveling with her family and toddler, found a cockroach in her breakfast during a flight from Delhi to New York on September 17. The incident came to light after Savant shared photos and videos of the cockroach-infested omelette on social media platforms. Her social media posts quickly went viral, drawing widespread outrage and raising serious concerns about food safety standards on the airline.
Savant found the cockroach in the omelette served during their breakfast shortly after takeoff after she and her two-year-old had ‘finished more than half of it’. Sharing her troubling experience on X, the woman journo wrote, “Found a cockroach in the omelette served to me on the @airindia flight from Delhi to New York. My 2 year old finished more than half of it with me when we found this. Suffered from food poisoning as a result.”
Savant also took to Instagram and penned her ordeal, emphasizing the gravity of the situation and revealing that both she and her child later suffered from food poisoning.
She wrote, “It’s been a fabulous week so far road tripping from US to Canada. Needless to say, travelling with a toddler can be exhausting, which is why I haven’t had the time to share how horrid the start to this trip was. As we are closer to returning to India, I share my onward flight experience in retrospect, while also twiddling my thumbs in apprehension of my return flight. I was on the Air India flight from Delhi to New York on 17 September. In just my first breakfast meal that was served to me at the beginning of a 15 hour journey, to my absolute horror, I found a cockroach in the omelette.
To her horror, she had already fed her child more than two-thirds of the meal before they spotted the insect. She wrote, "I had already finished more than 2/3rds of the meal portion, and what was unimaginably worse was that I was feeding my 2 yr old toddler the same omelette. I felt sick to my pit. Not surprisingly, both of us suffered from food poisoning right at the start of our trip.”
In the same post, Savant also mentioned that her family had been loyal to Air India for years, but this experience led them to reconsider their choice for future. “We’ve always stuck with Air India despite its issues, but this was too much,” she said.
She also warned others to be cautious: “Please beware! My family and I have always been loyal to Air India (despite its shortcomings) for a variety of reasons, until this day when Air India really pushed us over the edge. We are now dreading our return flight, and safe to say, we are NOT looking forward to it!”
Savant’s post resonated with many, as she conveyed her frustration not only with the incident but also with Air India. Her video and posts have sparked a backlash against the airline, with numerous social media users expressing outrage at the situation.
