Viral Videos Show Several Cars Being Swept Away in Flooded River After Heavy Rain Hits Haridwar

Haridwar: Several vehicles were washed away in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar on Saturday after heavy rain lashed the city in the afternoon causing a flood like situation on the banks of Sukhi River. With the arrival of monsoon, the first spell of rain in Haridwar has left the river water level soaring, engulfing and taking along everything that came within its reach including cars. Several videos surfaced on social media, wherein several vehicles parked in a cremation ground were washed away by the strong currents in Haridwar hit by heavy rainfall.
The rain water also gushed into the residential areas leaving the houses submerged in water and roads in the pilgrimage town waterlogged.
In visuals from the spot, several cars and buses can be seen submerged in an overflowing seasonal river in ‘Har ki Pauri’. While a few cars can be seen being swept away in the strong currents parked in the cremation ground.
In a video, a cop can be issuing a warning to the pilgrims and locals to not go near the river. "The water levels in the river have risen suddenly after the rainfall. Everyone is requested to not go near the river," he said.
Such incidents of seasonal rivers overflowing during monsoon are commonly reported in Uttarakhand.
It is being said that the Sukhi River generally remains dry, where people habitually park their cars on the dry riverbed. As the river got flooded all of a sudden on Saturday, the cars were swept away in the swirling river waters, which joins the mainstream of the Ganga a short distance away.
