Wanted Kashmiri fraudster arrested in Odisha over suspected terror links, possibly a Pakistan spy
Senior officials from the Special Task Force (STF) have hinted at potential links between the accused and anti-national elements.
In a startling development that has shocked the Odisha, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police Crime Branch apprehended Kashmiri youth Sayed Ishaan Bukhari in Jajpur district on Saturday on suspicion of terror links. The arrest has stirred unease among the locals. Preliminary investigations into Bukhari's activities have uncovered troubling connections. It has been revealed that he maintained communication with individuals of suspicion in Kerala, as well as with several Pakistani nationals. Additionally, a disturbing pattern emerged as it was discovered that Bukhari got married to at least 6 to 7 girls across various regions of India, spanning from Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh to Maharashtra and Odisha. Furthermore, Bukhari actively engaged in romantic relationships with many girls on multiple websites and applications, assuming the identity of a doctor with purported international credentials.
The arrest has raised serious concerns among authorities and the public alike, prompting a deeper inquiry into Bukhari's activities, affiliations, and potential threats posed by his connections. The Odisha Police Crime Branch, in collaboration with relevant agencies, is intensifying efforts to delve into the extent of his network and ascertain any potential risks.
Probe into Bukhari's alleged terror connections underway
Amidst the unfolding investigation surrounding Sayed Ishaan Bukhari, senior officials from the Special Task Force (STF) have hinted at potential links between the accused and anti-national elements. The investigative officials are undertaking a thorough investigation to determine his exact involvement in these alleged activities. His four mobile phones were seized and sent for examination to collect information about chats and links.
“We have gathered substantial evidence pointing towards the accused's fraudulent activities. Assessing his purported association with terrorist activities requires a meticulous approach. Presently, it is premature to ascertain his direct involvement in any acts of terror. While there are some detected connections, concrete evidence in this regard is currently lacking,” STF Inspector General JN Pankaj told Odisha TV. The investigation has gathered pace as authorities have intensified efforts to gather pertinent information to unravel any potential connections between Bukhari and activities of a nefarious nature.
The accused Sayed Ishaan Bukhari is involved in several cases of cheating by impersonating as doctor, an officer of PMO, or a close associate of some high NIA officials. He was staying in the Jajpur district since 2018. After a case was registered in Kashmir, he was frequently changing locations across the country. The Crime Branch sources also indicated at the accused's links with ISIS and they have also recovered evidence.
“We will bring the accused on a seven-day remand for a detailed investigation. It is too early to say if he is connected to Pakistan. Evidence will be verified. It cannot be ruled out that he might be a Pakistani spy but as of now, we do not have much evidence. The department is in touch with NIA and we are working together on this,” the senior cop further said as per reports.
