Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a public meeting at Marina Park in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Sunday asked people to take out their mobile phones and switch on the flashlights as a gesture to pay tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a public meeting at Marina Park in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Sunday asked people to take out their mobile phones and switch on the flashlights as a gesture to pay tribute to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Without wasting a second, the huge gathering took out their phones with the flashlights on.

They even chanted 'Netaji Zindabad' and 'Subhas Babu Zindabad' and 'Vande Mataram' with him.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a two visit to the Union Territory.

On his day of visit he renamed the three islands in the Andaman and Nicobar islands. Ross Island, Neil Island and Havelock Island were renamed as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep, respectively. 

The renaming took place on the 75th anniversary of freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose hoisting the national flag at Port Blair.

He is on a visit to Andaman and Nicobar Islands from December 29 till December 30 to lay the foundation stone for a number of development projects. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid floral tributes to the victims of the 2004 tsunami at a memorial in Car Nicobar on Sunday, December 30.

PM Modi congratulated the people of Car Nicobar for overcoming the impact of Tsunami, which struck the Island in 2004, and said the government is working to provide better facilities to the people of the Andamans. Hailing the joint family system prevalent in the island, the PM said the people there can set an example for the other parts of the country.

He also assured the people that their security is one of the top priorities of the government

"The people here have been demanding a solution to the problem of sea erosion for a long time. I am glad to announce that the government has decided to erect a sea wall to deal with the problem, the foundation of which was laid today," he said during his public address at BJR Stadium Car Nicobar.
