WATCH | Crocodile & snakes spotted as cyclone Michaung turns Chennai roads into streams
According to media reports, the Forest Department receives about 30-40 calls on average per day but due to excessive rains the calls have risen to 200 calls.
Scary video and images showing crocodiles and snakes spotted in Chennai's neighbourhood went viral.
As per media reports, the crocodile was spotted near Perugalanthur-Nedungundram road in December late at night. The video clearly shows the reptile crossing the road and going into bushes alongside the road even as travellers pass by.
It has been reported that Forest Department staff are deployed to handle the animals. The department issued an advisory after the mugger was spotted.
IAS officer Supriya Sahu said that the crocodile came out of the water body after it began to overflow due to heavy rain.
Supriya on X wrote, "Many are tweeting about this video. There are a few mugger crocodiles in several of the water bodies in Chennai. These are shy elusive animals and avoid human contact. This one has come out as the water has overflown due to massive rains under the impact of #CycloneMichuang please do not go close to water bodies. There is no possibility of harm to humans IF these animals are left alone & UNPROVOKED. No need to panic. Wildlife division has been alerted and they are on the job to avoid any untoward incident #cyclonemichaung #Cyclone #Michaung #ChennaiRains."
Meanwhile, as the cyclone brought in relentless rainfall in Chennai, several snakes were also spotted in residential buildings.
According to media reports, the Forest Department receives about 30-40 calls on average per day but due to excessive rains the calls have risen to 200 calls per day.
Amid heavy rains, snakes sought warm and closed spaces such as shoe closets, vents, sheds and parked vehicles for shelter, so its advised for people to take a safe look at them.
