Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi led a special drive on road safety on the busy Puducherry-Villupuram main road on Sunday as she urged the people driving two-wheelers to wear helmets and follow the necessary traffic rules. As a part of the road safety campaign, Kiran Bedi went on the busy roads and personally stopped motorists driving without helmets, and those bikes with more than two passengers.
Taking to Twitter, Kiran Bedi shared a video clip from the campaign, which she can be seen stopping the people who disobeyed the traffic rules - driving without helmets or more than two passengers on a bike - and asking them, " where's your helmet?". Not only this, in the video, Kiran Bedi also spotted an overcrowded auto-rickshaw and schooled them on the importance of following the road safety rules.
She also spotted an and warned its driver, besides asking some passengers to get off, and warned that "such a violation of traffic rules will not be tolerated". She also asked the Puducherry police personnel to check the motorists and ensure that traffic rules are followed.
In the tweet, Kiran Bedi slammed Puducherry chief minister V. Narayanasamy saying that he keeps "stalling the enforcement of road safety rules".
She wrote, "When there’s no culture of wearing a helmet in Puducherry and its CM keeps stalling enforcement & every 3rd day there’s a fatal accident, due to non-wearing of a helmet, where does one begin? Give up or take it in one’s own hands as well, alongside challenging enforcement agencies?"
