Weather Forecast: IMD Issues 'Very Heavy Rainfall' Warning for Himachal, Karnataka and These States

IMD warns of very heavy rainfall across the Western Himalayan region, northeast, and southern India. States like Himachal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu are affected.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for “very heavy rainfall” across several states in the Western Himalayan region and northeast India over the next six days. 

The affected areas include Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and more.

IMD has also issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in Uttrakhand in areas of Dehradun, Tehri, Champawat, Nainital, Chamoli, and Bageshwar districts of the state on Monday.

IMD Issues ‘Heavy Rainfall’ Alert for Western Himalayan Region

According to the IMD’s latest bulletin, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely over the Western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest India today, with a decrease expected afterward. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over northeast and east India during the next seven days and over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and North Interior Karnataka during the next five days.”

From August 12 to 17, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad region will experience similar conditions on August 12 and from August 14 to 17. West Rajasthan is likely to see heavy rainfall from August 12 to 14, while Haryana and Chandigarh are expected to experience it from August 12 to 15.

Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall is forecasted for Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and East Rajasthan on August 12.

Heavy Rainfall in Northeast India from Aug 11 to 17

Northeast India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Bihar, is also under alert for heavy rainfall from August 11 to 17. Specific areas such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Gangetic West Bengal will likely see isolated heavy rainfall from August 16 to 14, while Jharkhand and Odisha are forecasted for August 13 to 16.

In southern India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and North Interior Karnataka are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall from August 12 to 15, with very heavy rainfall also expected in Tamil Nadu on August 14 and 15, and in Kerala and Mahe on August 13 and 14.
