Weather Update: IMD Issues Orange Alert in Kerala, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, Heavy Rains Expected

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, warning of the possibility of heavy rains on Sunday in three states which includes West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

IMD has cautioned three states for heavy rainfall and possibly dangerous condition.

For the next five days, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to witness widespread light to moderate rainfall in the region.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are expected to experience scattered to fairly widespread rainfall. In Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, scattered rainfall is predicted by the weather department.

Specifically, IMD forecasts heavy rainfall over the next two days in Jammu and Kashmir, with heavy downpours expected in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until August 20. Delhi is likely to see heavy rains on August 20, while Uttar Pradesh will experience similar conditions until August 22.

Capital to Witness Wet Spells, Max Temperature May Touch 36 Degrees

In Delhi, light wet spells have been forecast until August 23, with generally cloudy skies and light rain. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will hover around 27 degrees Celsius.

According to IMD’s latest press release dated July 16, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan & Goa, and Chhattisgarh. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is likely in the Gujarat region and Marathwada, with isolated to scattered rainfall in Madhya Maharashtra and Saurashtra & Kutch throughout the week.

The weather bulletin also predicts fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall in Northeast India, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall in the Northeast during the week. Heavy precipitation is expected in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya from August 20 to 22. Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha will see heavy rainfall until August 20, while Arunachal Pradesh will experience heavy rains on August 22. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to face similar conditions until August 22.

In the southern peninsula, heavy downpours are forecast over the next five days. Tamil Nadu is expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall on August 18, while Lakshadweep will see heavy rains until August 20. Karnataka is also likely to experience significant rainfall over the next two days.
