Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya on Thursday reacted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's final speech in the Parliament wherein he referred to an unnamed person who "ran away" with Rs 90,000 crores from India. Taking to social media, the soon-to-be extradited liquor baron posted a series of tweets in which he asked why PM Modi was not instructing the banks to take the money he had made available to pay off the public funds lent to Kingfisher.

Responding to PM Modi's veiled attack, Vijay Mallya in his tweet said that the prime minister was a very 'eloquent speaker' adding that, "Given the media narrative, I can only infer that reference is to me."

He goes on to express surprise at media reports on ED claims that he 'hid his wealth'. He then defends himself on allegations saying that he had put approximately Rs 14,000 crore worth of assets in front of the court and also made offer to settle before Karnataka HC, calling it a 'perfectly, sincere, honest and readily achievable offer'.

On February 4, UK home secretary signed the order to extradite Vijay Mallya, who is wanted in India to face charges of financial irregularities running into thousands of crores of rupees. This came less than two months after the Westminster Magistrates' court ordered the extradition of Mallya to India, with Chief Magistrate Judge Emma Arbuthnot prima facie finding a case against him for fraud, conspiracy and money laundering.
