Childhood memories are often filled with beloved cartoons. Cartoon Network, a favorite channel for many, features beloved shows such as Bugs Bunny Builders, The Scooby-Doo Show, The Tom and Jerry Show, and many others.

Recently, #RIPCartoonNetwork has been trending on X (formerly Twitter) due to rumors that the channel might shut down. The trend started when the 'Animation Workers Ignited' Twitter account posted an animation claiming that "Cartoon Network is essentially dead." The post claimed that "other animation studios are not far behind" and also mentioned possible job cuts in the animation industry.

The viral video features animated characters engaged in dialogue, stating, "Cartoon Network is essentially dead, and other big animation studios are not far behind. What the hell happened to all the animation workers? A lot of them are unemployed in record numbers, in fact, and many have been unemployed for upwards of a year, but they carry the industry during the pandemic. That's right. When Covid first hit, animation was able to operate completely remotely, making it one of the only forms of entertainment that could continue production uninterrupted. But studios decided to pay them back by canceling projects, outsourcing jobs, and laying off artists on mass." "Greed. Big studios make their finances look better by reducing spending and cutting staff. CEOs and executives reap the monetary benefits for themselves. So they want to reap, huh? I'll show them. Reap. I don't think you'll be doing much with a plastic sigh, but you can help by spreading the word about your favorite Cartoon Network shows you wish were still around using the hashtag RIP Cartoon Network, and stay tuned for more ways to help tag by following this account. Animation is under attack. Which side are you on?"

The video went viral across social media, crossing over three million views in less than four hours. Many users joined in, sharing their favorite cartoons using the hashtag #RIPCartoonNetwork.

"Courage The Cowardly Dog will always be a favorite! It’s very sad to hear that the animators were treated so poorly, and hopefully they can find work soon." One person commented. Another wrote, "I’ll probably remember that episode of 'The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy' when they tried to get her to smile for the rest of my life."

As more people used the hashtag, rumors started spreading that Cartoon Network was closing down for good. However, it's important to note that the 'Animation Workers Ignited' account, linked to the animators' union, is using #RIPCartoonNetwork to highlight the challenges faced by industry workers. The channel is not closing, and these rumors are not true.
