New Delhi: A competitive exam aspirant in Shakarpur, discovered hidden surveillance cameras in her apartment after noticing unusual activity on her WhatsApp account. Due to her limited technological knowledge, she initially sought advice and was prompted to check her linked devices. Upon finding her WhatsApp logged into an unknown laptop, she immediately logged out, which raised her suspicions.
Feeling unsafe, she conducted a thorough search of her apartment for hidden cameras and uncovered one installed in the bulb holder of her bathroom.
Alarmed, she contacted the police via a PCR call. Officers arrived and discovered another camera hidden in her bedroom.
During the investigation, she revealed that she often entrusted her house keys to her landlord's son, Karan, who resides on a different floor. Karan admitted during questioning that he was involved in the case. Three months ago, while she was away visiting her hometown in Uttar Pradesh, he purchased three spy cameras and installed them in her bedroom and bathroom.
Karan had repeatedly requested RRR’s keys under the guise of needing to repair electrical fixtures, allowing him to access the apartment and transfer recorded videos from the cameras to his laptop.
The police recovered one spy camera from Karan’s possession, along with two laptops used to store the illicit footage.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 330/2024 at PS Shakarpur, and Karan is currently being interrogated.
Karan is a 30-year-old graduate preparing for competitive exams for the past seven years.
