World Cup | PM Modi praises India's fighting spirit till the end versus New Zealand, says 'Wins and losses are a part of life" on semifinal exit

MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja's power play went in vain after India was defeated by New Zealand by 18 runs in a nail-biting semifinal clash at Manchester on Monday. As India was knocked out of the World Cup 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and extended best to the Men In Blue for their future endeavours. Adding that it is a "disappointing result", PM Modi said that it was good to see Team India's fighting spirit till the very end.
The Prime Minister added that wins and losses are a part of life, adding that the country is proud of India's batting, bowling and fielding throughout the tournament.
In the semifinal clash, New Zealand beat India by 18 runs and sealed a place in the final for the second time, even as Dhoni and Jadeja's partnership kept the hopes of Indian Cricket fans high. India fell just short of the victory margin with 221 while chasing New Zealand's 240.
Speaking following the match, Captain of Indian Cricket team Virat Kohli said that team's shot-selection could have been better, adding that it was Jadeja's performances that had a huge positive throughout the game.
"First half we were good with the ball on the field. We got what we wanted," the skipper said, adding, 'I thought we had restricted New Zealand to a total that was gettable. Then they balled very well in the first half-hour.'
He later praised the Kiwi bowlers, 'Credit has to go to New Zealand bowlers, their skill level was on display, they got the swing.'
