It is crucial for governments to continue evolving and expanding such schemes, fostering an environment for every girl child in country
In a commendable effort to uplift the status of girl children and promote gender equality, the Indian government has implemented various schemes aimed at their welfare.
Today we will provide a brief introduction to the various government schemes addressing girl child welfare in India.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme
The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme, stands as a vital initiative launched by the Government of India to address the alarming decline in the girl child ratio and promote education among girls. This multifaceted program operates at the grassroots level, aiming to bring about a paradigm shift in societal attitudes towards the girl child.
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
Launched in 2015 as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a unique savings scheme designed exclusively for the welfare of the girl child in India. This government-backed initiative aims to encourage parents to save for the future education and marriage expenses of their daughters while fostering financial inclusion and empowerment.
Balika Samridhi Yojana
The Balika Samriddhi Yojana is a central government initiative aimed at providing financial support to girls in economically disadvantaged sections of society. This program is designed to ensure the enrollment and continued attendance of girls in primary and secondary schools, fostering their educational journey.
The primary objective of the scheme is to enhance the well-being of girls and offer them access to a higher standard of education. To qualify for the benefits of the Balika Samriddhi Yojana, the girl must belong to a family categorized as below the poverty line (BPL).
Ladli Scheme
This program is accessible to residents of Haryana or individuals with at least one parent from Haryana, and proof of residence is required through a domicile certificate.
To avail the benefits, the first step involves registering the mother and the child at the nearest Anganwadi center.
Parents with two daughters in the family can benefit from this initiative. The allocated amount is deposited in a Kisan Vikas Patra account, and upon the girl reaching the age of 18, the funds can be withdrawn. The Kisan Vikas Patra account is opened in the mother's name.
The Ladli Scheme application form must be accurately completed. The scheme provides a yearly sum of 5000 for five years per family.
It is crucial for governments to continue evolving and expanding such schemes, fostering an environment where every girl can realize her full potential and contribute meaningfully to the community and the nation as a whole.
