Mahua Asked to Vacate Allotted Bungalow: Know 5 other MPs served notice to vacate Bungalow in Past

In a surprising turn of events today, Mahua Moitra, an expelled Member of Parliament, has been served a notice to vacate her government-allocated bungalow. Mahua Moitra isn't the first Member of Parliament to receive such a notice. In the past, there have been instances where prominent political figures faced a similar fate. 

Here, we will take a closer look at five other MPs who were served notices to vacate their government-allocated residences. 

Raghav Chadha 

Raghav Chadha, a young Member of Parliament from AAP, faced a similar situation when he was asked to vacate his allotted bungalow. Raghav was served notice earlier this year after his suspension from the lower house of Parliament in the wake of breach of privilege complaints.  

Akhilesh Yadav 

Akhilesh Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and a prominent figure in Indian politics, found himself at the receiving end of a notice to vacate his government bungalow. Mr. Akhilesh Yadav was provided with notice from the state government to vacate his government bungalow after his party lost the elections.  

Chirag Paswan 

Chirag Paswan, an LJP leader and a key player in Bihar politics, also found himself in a tight spot when he received a notice to vacate his government residence. Chirag was evicted from Janpath bungalow allocated to his father Ram Vilas Paswan. 

Azam Khan 

Azam Khan, a seasoned politician and former cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, faced controversies that led to a notice for vacating his bungalow. Azam khan who is now serving his term in jail for forgery and hate speech case was evicted from his Rampur bungalow allotted on his name. 

Narendra Tomar 

Narendra Tomar, a senior leader and Union Minister, experienced a similar ordeal when asked to vacate his government-allocated residence. Tomar was served the notice from the house panel led by C. R. Paatil, deals with all the matters related to accommodation of members of the Lower House of Parliament.   

These incidents from the past prompted discussions in the political lobby on not only on the criteria and process followed in allotting accommodation to Members of Parliament but also about governance, transparency, and the inter-changing relationship between politicians and the institutions they represent.
