Lucknow: In a major infrastructure boost, the upcoming Ganga Expressway will improve the connectivity landscape of Uttar Pradesh. Once complete, the 594 km-long expressway will enable travelers to cover the distance between Meerut and Allahabad in just six hours.
The Ganga Expressway, a flagship project of the Uttar Pradesh government, is being built at a cost of Rs 40,000 crore. The six-lane, access-controlled highway will pass through 12 districts, including Meerut, Amroha, Bulandshahar, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Farrukhabad, Hardoi, Kannauj, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratagarh, and Prayagraj.
The UP government has asked the developers of the expressway project to complete the work by December 2024 so that it can be operational before the 2025 Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Mela. The project was expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The Ganga Expressway will be a six-lane expressway, but it will be expanded to eight later.
The speed will have a speed of 120 km/h. Making it one of the fastest highways in the country.
The main two toll plazas will be constructed, and 15 ramp plazas will be proposed.
The highway will have multiple service lanes, rest stops, and amenities like food courts, fuel stations, and parking areas.
The phase 1 project of the Ganga Expressway has been divided into 12 different packages. The phase 1 corridor is being developed at a total cost of Rs 37,350 crore, including the land acquisition cost of over Rs 9500 crore.
