VIRAL: Man pleads after ticketless passengers occupy his booked seat, Indian Railways reacts

On the Vishali Express, Satayam voiced worries about how to handle situations where passengers pack the cabin without tickets while traveling in sleeper class.

Viral: You can find countless videos online showing people traveling without tickets, crammed into sleepers and even air-conditioned 3-tier coaches on trains. Seeing a traveler sob for assistance with his confirmed seat, however, is just amazing. A man posted images of this incident on social media, and it quickly gained popularity and went viral.

On the Vishali Express, Satayam voiced worries about how to handle situations where passengers pack the cabin without tickets while traveling in sleeper class. In the images he posted, people can be seen standing close to one another in the congested sleeping carriage corridor on X, causing problems for other passengers. Satayam posted: “It is a very bad condition in Vishali express. I have confirmed a seat, but I'm not able to get a seat. Please help me.”

In response to the tweet, Railway Seva's X account (@RailwaySeva) urged the user to DM with the journey details, including her telephone number and PNR/UTS number. Even, North Western Railway replied to the post. "Kindly look into @drmljn @RailwaySeva".

According to an RTI reply, the Railways apprehended 3.6 crore passengers in 2022–2023 who were either travelling without a ticket or with the incorrect one. This is an increase of nearly one crore on the previous year. 1.10 crore passengers were found to be traveling without tickets or with the wrong ones in 2019–2020; this number increased to 2.7 crore in 2021–2022 and 3.6 crore in 2022–2023.
