Ahoi Ashtami 2024: Significance

Ahoi Ashtami is a significant day which is commemorated by all the mothers as they pin their hoopes to the well-being, and good fortune of their children. Celebrated with much-enthusiasm in North India, mothers fast from dawn to dusk and they break the fast only when they sight the stars. This fast includes various puja rituals which they perform with purity. They do not eat and drink whole day. This festival falls eight days before Diwali . The festival is popularly known as Ahoi Athe as it occurs on Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha.

Ahoi Ashtami 2024: Rituals

Women wake up early in the morning and take bath before starting puja rituals. They wear nice clean and traditional clothes. Women also adorn themselves with a silver necklace and locket has the picture of Ahoi Mata and they keep adding one silver bead every year. They worship it with milk, akshat and roli. Light a diya, recite the katha, offer bhog prasad to the Goddess. In the evening, break the fast after sighting the stars.
