If you have a tiny purr baby by now, you must be aware that cats can be quite messy. They are often known to drool, regardless of the situation. As dramatic as they can be, even while making biscuits, they seek attention constantly.

Reasons for Drooling

Since cats drool often, it might be hard to tell if they’re facing any issues. Check out some reasons why your purr baby might be drooling, and if they are in good health:

  • Relaxed: You may notice your cat drooling while relaxing or enjoying their favourite food.
  • Bad taste: If your cat is drooling and gagging, they may have eaten something that doesn’t agree with them.
  • Stressed: Cats also drool when they’re stressed or unwell. If you see your cat drooling while taking them to an unfamiliar place, it’s likely due to stress. Excessive drooling could be a sign they need help.
  • Afraid: When cats are frightened, they might drool a lot.
  • Food lodged in throat: Sometimes, random items like leaves can get stuck in their throat, causing drooling.

When to Visit a Doctor

“While drooling isn’t always a cause for concern, certain signs should prompt a visit to the veterinarian. These include changes in appetite, difficulty breathing, or altered behaviour. Recognizing these signs helps determine whether drooling is just a harmless quirk or a symptom of a more serious issue,” says Animal Heart Caring Hospital.
