In an era filled with celebrity endorsed wellness trends, NAD+ has emerged as the latest must-have anti-ageing supplement. Short for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, NAD+ is celebrated for its role in metabolism, DNA repair, immunity, and longevity.
A growing list of Hollywood stars are publicly endorsing NAD+ supplements. Jennifer Aniston recently told the Wall Street Journal that she views these supplements as “the future” of health. Joe Rogan, known for his podcast, is also a proponent.
Hailey Bieber, in a promotional video, enthusiastically declared her commitment to NAD+ for life, alongside Kendall Jenner receiving the treatment via IV.
“They underlie the conversion of protein, fat, and carbohydrate into energy. They underlie the conversion of everything that we eat into everything that we do and everything that we are. They are required for our cells to generate energy," explained Biochemist Charles Brenner to Business Insider on how NAD coenzymes are crucial for cellular energy production.
"They drive the conversion of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates into energy, underpinning all bodily functions and activities," he said.
Despite the hype, NAD+ supplements are not FDA-approved and fall into the category of unregulated products. This hasn’t deterred celebrities from experimenting with unapproved treatments before—such as the off-label use of Ozempic for weight loss.
Presently, people can purchase NAD+ supplements by mail, reflecting a rising consumer interest. Vogue Business predicts a 10 per cent increase in Google searches for NAD+ in the coming year. The market for NAD+ therapy, which includes popular IV drips, was valued at $184 million in 2022 and continues to expand as demand grows, as per Vogue Business.
