The urge to escape the real world and move on to a fantastical dreamy one can be really tempting for many. And this is where fantasy books come into play. Not only are they good at helping escape reality, but they also serve as a whetstone for the reader’s imagination. Here is a list of series of fantasy books that one should definitely get their hands on:
Harry Potter
This book is synonymous to childhood for a lot of people. Written by J.K. Rowling, the series is about the wizardry world where a baby is the ‘Chosen One’ to kill an evil wizard. The fantasy books are a bildungsroman which follows Harry Potter’s journey from first entering the wizardry world to vanquishing He-Who-Cannot-Be-Named aka Voldemort. Starting from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the fantasy books went on to become a raging success and have also been adapted on screen by Warner Brothers.
A Song of Ice and Fire
Although the television series (Game of Thrones) is more popular than the book series, no one can deny that if not for these fantasy books, the telescreen version would never have existed. The series is written by George R. R. Martin. Five books of the series have come out which have been turned into the television series and two more are on their way. A Game of Thrones is just one book in the series and the other fantasy books include A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, A Dance with Dragons, The Winds of the Winter and A Dream if Spring.
The Shiva Trilogy
Based on the mythological Hindu God, Shiva, the fantasy books in the trilogy take up elements of Hindu mythology and ancient history to weave a tale of kings and warriors. Written by Amish Tripathi the three fantasy books in the series explore Shiva as a man and then his ascent to the stature of God. The Shiva trilogy is an interesting read for those who love historical fiction as well. The fantasy books include The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret of the Nagas and The Oath of Vayuputras.
