Amrita Pritam
Considered as a legend of the Indian literature, Amrita Pritam is a noted poet and a novelist. Famous for her controversial texts in the pre-partition era, Amrita penned the bestselling novel, Pinjar, which was later adapted into a movie. Bestowed with prestigious awards like Sahitya Akademi, Bharatiya Jnanpith and Padma Vibhushan, Amrita Pritam is remembered even today for her poem, Ajj Ankhaan Waris Shah Nu.
R.K Narayan
Considered as one of the leading figures of the early Indian literature, R.K Narayan is famous for his simple and modest writing style. Born in Chennai, R. K Narayan shot to fame with the success of the bestselling novel, The Dark Room. The Padma Bhushan awardee is best-known for his works like Malgudi Days and The Financial Man. Narayan is considered as one of the few Indian writers from British India, who popularised Indian culture with his work across the globe.
Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay
A popular essayist and novelist from the colonial times, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's contribution to the Hindi literature is huge. Chattopadhyay is famous for his essays on patriarchy and the bigotry in society. The author is famous for his works like Devdas and Parineeta, which were later adapted into movies.
