One of the most defining parts of the festival of lights, Diwali, is the diyas. Diyas are very simple but very elegant. They completely light up the entire place and look very beautiful. They are also very easy to maintain. The traditional diya is made out of mud or clay. But, you can spruce up your place this Diwali and make some DIY diyas right at home.
Here are some excellent ideas for DIY diyas:
Wheat flour diyas
Diyas can be easily made out of wheat flour. All you need to do is mix a bowl of flour and water and knead it into a dough. Taking small pieces, shape these into a little bowl and add a lip at one corner. Bake these in a pre-heated oven (100-degree Celsius) for 20 minutes. Remove, cool them, and decorate!
Old cups and bowls
Instead of using traditional diyas, you can also recycle some old cups and bowls. There are two ways to use cups as diyas. One, you can melt some wax and fill the container, along with a wick, making it a candle. Another way is to pour some water, pour some oil, add a wick on top so that it floats on the oil and lights it up!
Glass diyas
Bollywood actor Juhi Chawla posted a video on her Twitter handle, where she shows how to make beautiful diyas right at home. She uses plain glass containers to make diyas. She pours water in the glass, filling it halfway. Next, she adds oil in the glass. She then places a wick on top of the oil. These lit-up diyas look extremely beautiful. Watch the video here:
Did you know, Diwali in the traditional sense, has little to do with myriad fireworks! This Diwali I plan to light up my house with desi diyas as nothing speaks festive more than the flickering light spread around the house 😁✨ pic.twitter.com/DC8NAYEbkZ
